Trip to Volovec and back

This easy outing starts in the crossroads of tourist paths by Tatliakova chata (chalet) and continue via the saddle Zabrat, Rakon to the peak Volovec.

We can find Volovec in the nicest part which is called Rohacska part of the West Tatra mountains. It is easy to pick out Volovec thanks to its characteristic tapering peak rising above Smutna dolina (from Slovak side) and Chocholowska dolina (from Polish side). Aside Smutna dolina you can see Rohacska mountain lakes. Well known and significant mountains are not far away from there, Ostry Rohac and Plactive. The first one has given the name to this part of Tatras.

The whole trip is approx. 7 km long and you will not walk longer than 3 hours. The route starts by Tatliakova chata in the elevation of 1370 meters and continues along the green path to the seddle Zabrat, which is already on the Polish side of the mountains. From this place go to Rakon (1870 meters above sea level) and to our destination Volovec- still following the green colour. On the way back is recommended to go along the same path down or you may continue to Ziarske sedlo (saddle) via Jamnicke sedlo to the crossroads Plactive.
